Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort: A British Traveller’s Review

For UK visitors seeking an affordable, family-friendly stay within the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort offers a vibrant, sports-themed experience that brings the magic of Disney to life without breaking the bank.
Overview: A Value Resort with a Sporting Spirit
Opened in 1994, Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort is one of Disney's Value Resorts, situated in the Animal Kingdom Resort Area. The resort features five themed sections: Touchdown! (American football), Center Court (tennis), Home Run Hotel (baseball), Hoops Hotel (basketball), and Surf’s Up! (surfing). Each area is adorned with oversized sports icons, creating a playful atmosphere that appeals to children and sports enthusiasts alike.
Accommodation: Basic Comforts with Themed Décor
The resort houses 1,920 rooms, offering Standard and Preferred options. Rooms are modest in size (approximately 260 square feet) and feature two double beds, accommodating up to four guests. Amenities include a mini-fridge, flat-screen TV, safe, hairdryer, iron, and complimentary Wi-Fi. While the rooms are clean and functional, they have not yet undergone the refurbishments seen in other All-Star Resorts, resulting in a somewhat dated appearance.
Dining: Quick-Service Options for On-the-Go Guests
The End Zone Food Court serves a variety of quick-service meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including favourites like pizza, pasta, burgers, and salads. The food court can become busy during peak times, but mobile ordering via the My Disney Experience app helps streamline the process. For adults, the Grandstand Spirits Pool Bar offers a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, perfect for relaxing by the pool.
Recreation: Pools and Activities for All Ages
The resort boasts two themed pools:
Surfboard Bay Pool: A large pool surrounded by giant surfboards, creating a beach-like atmosphere.
Grand Slam Pool: Shaped like a baseball diamond, this pool features a Goofy fountain on the pitcher's mound, delighting younger guests.
Additional recreational activities include a playground, jogging trail, arcade, and nightly "Movies Under the Stars." The resort also hosts campfire activities and offers a variety of games like table tennis and cornhole.
Transportation: Complimentary Disney Bus Service
Guests at All-Star Sports Resort benefit from Disney's complimentary bus transportation to all theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs. The bus stop is conveniently located in front of Stadium Hall. While the service is efficient, buses can become crowded during peak times, especially in the mornings and evenings.
Shopping: Souvenirs and Essentials On-Site
Sport Goofy Gifts and Sundries, located near the lobby, offers a range of Disney merchandise, snacks, and travel essentials. It's a convenient spot for picking up souvenirs or any items you may have forgotten to pack.
Final Thoughts: A Budget-Friendly Choice with Disney Magic
Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort provides a cost-effective option for families and sports fans looking to stay within the magic of Walt Disney World. While the accommodations are basic and the rooms could benefit from updates, the resort's lively theming, range of activities, and convenient transportation make it a solid choice for budget-conscious travellers.
